Making CBD Oil In Large Quantities

What is CBD?

CBD is a cannabinoid that is extracted from the cannabis plant that has been reported to help a myriad of conditions ranging from pain relief to more severe ailments such as cancer. Many users have said that they can tell a major benefit when adding CBD to their life and has been touted as a miracle. CBD is extracted from a plant called hemp that is a cousin of the more well-known marijuana plant. Hemp is very low in THC, but high in CBD which means it has no psychoactive effects while retaining the therapeutic benefits of the cannabis plant.

How Is CBD Extracted?

CBD is extracted  in an extract lab using three main methods and they are solvent extraction, steam distillation, and CO2 supercritical extraction. The first solvent extraction uses either a natural solvent (alcohol or oil) or a hydrocarbon solvent (butane, propane, petroleum, etc.)  to remove the CBD from the hemp biomass. The hemp is soaked in the solvent which is then evaporated off, leaving behind a CBD rich oil. This method is efficient and inexpensive, but hydrocarbon extraction can leave behind toxic residue whereas natural solvents leave behind chlorophyll which impacts the taste. The second method of steam distillation is a tried and true method as it has been used for many decades to produce essential oils. This method uses steam instead of solvents to produce the extract. The benefits of this one are it is inexpensive, efficient, removes the chlorophyll, and leaves behind no toxic residue. The downside is that it takes more hemp biomass than other methods and the extract itself can be inconsistent in its potency. The third method CO2 supercritical extraction is the crown jewel of extraction processes. It uses carbon dioxide under high heat and pressure to remove the CBD from the hemp. Once extracted the CO2 is evaporated off, leaving behind a hemp oil with no toxic residue and no chlorophyll. While it is more expensive than the other two it is extremely efficient and the end product is of the highest quality and consistent in potency.

High Quality CBD Oil Being Made

How Can You Tell The Quality of CBD Oil?

The best way to tell the quality of a CBD oil is to analyze the lab reports or COA. Any reputable CBD company will make the results available to consumers and if not in plain sight it is a good practice to ask to see them. Another good indicator is what extraction type does the company use. If it is solvent or steam distillation generally the end product quality will be slightly lower than if it was extracted using CO2 supercritical extraction. Finally, here are some questions you can ask your supplier to find out for yourself if the oil is of a higher quality.

Where is the Hemp Grown?

Asking this question can be crucial as hemp plants are what is known as a hyperaccumulator. This means that the hemp plant easily absorbs any toxins or heavy metals in the soil. If the supplier is in an area where they must have the soil tested first this is a good indicator that the CBD oil will be of higher quality and lacking any toxins.

Are Organic, Non-GMO, and Pesticide Free Practices Followed?

This can also be critical information. Hemp grown that adheres to these principles will always produce a higher quality oil that is free from toxic residue. When seeking out a supplier it is always best to buy from companies that can abide by these strict policies and get certified from the governing bodies.

What Kind of Certifications Do You Have?

Ask about the certifications the farm and extraction facility might have. While organic, Non-GMO, and pesticide-free are excellent it is also best to be sure they have GMP (good manufacturing practices) or other certifications that make sure their facility is ethical and not just out to make a profit. Some of these certifications are hard to get and take inspections to be sure they are compliant with the standards set forth. When a company goes out of its way to get these certifications you can be sure that the quality of the CBD oil will be much higher than those who do not.

Choosing A CBD Oil Wholesaler

With this knowledge, you should be able to make an educated decision as to who the best CBD supplier is with the highest quality and most potent CBD extracts. When it comes to choosing a CBD wholesaler it is best to ask as many questions as you can think of. This way you can be sure of your decision and be proud of the products you pass on down to your customers.
